S&T Bulgaria extends the level of data protection in Mobiltel Bulgaria

Mobiltel is the Bulgarian first and biggest GSM service provider with nearly 5 million customers. The company is a part of mobilkom austria group and the only Vodafone partner for Bulgaria, offering full range of GSM, UMTS and HSDPA services together with a number of Vodafone live! services.
S&T Bulgaria started its business with Mobiltel more than 6 years ago and developed it with a number of data consolidation, ILM and backup and recovery projects based on EMC HW and SW. The first in Bulgaria DR/BC project was successfully finished in 2003 with an EMC SRDF Synchronous solution implemented by S&T Bulgaria storage specialists.

A new project was started at the beginning of 2007 with a pilot installation for 3-sites multi-hop data replication solution based on EMC SRDF Data Mobility technology. The third site is situated in Varna , more than 600 km away from the synchronously replicated sites in Sofia . First in the region Brocade 7500 switches for inter-SAN connectivity and routing were delivered as a part of the pilot installation and this solution was accepted as a proof of concept for further development.

The second stage of the project consists of delivery, installation and integration of two brand new, high - performance, new generation EMC Symmetrix DMX-3 arrays which swapped the existing old EMC Symmetrix arrays. This increase the overall SAN performance in Mobiltel and allows further capacity and productivity upgrades to be easily planned. The total value of the HW, SW and services in the project was up to USD 1 million.

The multi-hop DR/BC solution implemented by S&T Bulgaria is the first 3-sites Disaster Recovery solution in Bulgaria as well as the newly delivered EMC Symmetrix DMX-3 arrays are also the first installed in the Bulgarian IT market. This is now playing an important role as a reference installation for S&T Bulgaria concentration big interest and provoking new leads for such solutions.
